About 2 weeks ago I've been notified that the site has been laggy and inacessible at different times of the day. Since then I've been looking into the problem, pondering on what could be the exact cause of the downtime. Could it be a DOS attack, misconfiguration or corruption of a root server config file, too many users, incompatible scripts, forum modifications that are database entensive, or server hardware problem? The hardware is the only conclusion that I believe is the true problem we've been facing after the DOS attack. So now everything has been move to a brand new server with the same specifications. It has been 18 hours now since the server has been running obediently. If there is no downtime within the next two days, our problem has been solved. Let's hope so! Update: We found the problem to be the harddrive, and have taken measures to transfer all the data to the new one. We moved to the new server by disconnecting the harddrive and putting it in the new one, which didn't solve the problem, but helped identified it. |
