Upon first inspection, one would think that the story would revolve around S&M completely, but in this case, the title Slave X Slave actually has several meanings. In one way the name could represent the constant power struggles that occur in Sanada Shizuru and Yumio Youji's relationship, but in another way it could also indicate that Shizuru and Youji are actually slaves to one another's feelings.

This manga has a little of something for everyone in it: an artist x producer relationship, a student x teacher relationship, a brother x brother relationship (though not by blood), an artist/student x student relationship and basically, a whole lot of graphic boy on boy love!

Like other works by Kanzaki Takashi that I have read, there is not a severely distinct line between seme and uke. The lines are a bit more blurred here in terms of agression, and her characters, while still pretty, are all distinctively male, which I find refreshing.

Overall, I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for hard yaoi, but would also like a side order of solid plot and emotion to go with it.
