It's been a while since I've watched it, but from what I remember I really liked this. It wasn't really hilarious, or really sexy or anything, it was just cute and kinda sweet. It's a story kind of making fun of the common yaoi "height rule", which basically states that the taller male gets to be seme. But both of these men are the same height and although they want to be in a relationship, neither can agree to let the other one dominate him.
Though it's not an amazingly original story, it's one that common enough and silly enough to deserve this light-hearted parody.

Though I haven't seen all of the episodes, from what I have seen I can say that this is definitely an interesting show! ^^;
It focuses on the ridiculous spoiled troublemaker prince, Patalliro (age ???), and his bodyguard Bancoran, and their daily murder mysteries. Er, well, the murder doesn't usually occur until the end of the episode, so it's more like "who's trying to murder Patalliro" mysteries, which usually involve a beautiful pretty-boy double-agent (who all look almost identical) who ends up falling for bishounen-killer Bancoran and his amazing eye-shadow.
So, this anime is shounen-ai, but that's not really the point. It's more like a massively re-occurring joke and plot device. (But I don't mean that in a bad way.) What is the point then?? Honestly, I'm not sure there is one. (Again, this is not a bad thing.) Sometimes it's nice to just sit down with no expectations and watch something ridiculously silly and pointless! And that's what I suggest you do. Sit down and laugh at the 80's animation, the men's eyeshadow, the onion-head servants, and the obscene amount of times Patalliro makes sexy eyes at Bancoran. =D

Maybe I'm just deranged, but this one was perfect for me. It's the only anime I can think of that automatically breaks the three major relationship taboos we seem to have: same sex, age difference, blood relation. That alone makes this OVA so different from most others.
But if that was all it had going for it, it wouldn't be very interesting. No, regardless of the labels put on the relationship, the feelings between the two main characters are very sweet and gentle. Mira's desperate need to be with Kyousuke tugged at my heartstrings.
Aside from the story, the animation was lovely too. The colors were bright but not overly much, and they helped convey a great overall feeling.
In the end, it didn't end up really feeling like shota, it didn't end up feeling wrong or weird or anything like that. Just sort of heartwarming. Definitely one to watch!

Sanami Matou's FAKE is one of my favorite manga of all time. I really wish I could say that the FAKE OVA was one of my favorite anime, but sadly that's just not quite possible. But even though it's not my favorite, I still like it, and it holds a special little place in my heart. ^_^
The OVA is... well, just that. An OVA. Not an anime series. So it's short. It covers only a few chapters of the 7-volume manga. My guess for why they chose this story is because it's the perfect place to introduce most of the main characters. They could have done the first few chapters, but then they wouldn't have been able to introduce Berkeley Rose, JJ, or Carol. So, when thinking about it that way, I suppose they made the right choice.
The content of the OVA differs a bit from the content of the chapters it came from. The biggest difference is the addition of several new characters. Although I usually like an anime to stick as close as possible to the manga, in this case I approve. The main girl they introduce was sweet, didn't try to steal the spotlight, and mainly existed as moral support for Ryo. So she gets a thumbs up.
The animation is pretty faithful to the original, with those weird eyes and facial shapes that take a bit to get used to. (I ended up really liking the style, since it was so different from so many typical anime.) The colors sort of gave it that early-90's feel, which is probably fine, since the whole manga sort of gave me that feeling too.
The music and sound was nothing particularly special. I liked the opening theme (though what it had to do with the story, I have no idea) but none of the other music sticks out in my mind. The voice acting was pretty decent, Dee being played by Seki Tomokazu, one of my favorite voice actors. (He also played Shuichi from Gravitation, and Touya from Cardcaptor Sakura.)
To sum this up, I'm going to say the same thing everyone else said: I just wish this was longer. I'm still hoping that perhaps on day they'll make a full length series. But until then, this will do just fine. =)

Ok, honestly, I'm not really all that into the hot sex scenes. I mean, I like them, but I really prefer romantic, sweet relationships. So, I wasn't expecting to like this all that much. I mean, it had "pornograph" in the name, it was practically guaranteed to be nothing but sex.
I wasn't too far off on that aspect, but I was surprised that it did end up being, well, sweet. Though neither story in the OVA was long enough to show you much of what became of their relationships, I got the feeling that it was just the beginning of something much greater for all of them.
Oh, and the animation was beautiful. Something about the smoothness and the sort of Springy colors really appealed to me. =)

I began watching this anime when it was first released on DVD in America. I hadn't been into anime for very long at the time, and didn't know much about fansubs, which is probably one of the reasons I first watched it in English (not to mention actually paid for the darn thing ^_^). Even though I've practically begun to detest English-language anime, I still love this one. The translation seems fairly accurate, though with more American cultural references than Japanese ones. And though the voice acting is not award-winningly phenomenal, it's not bad. Yuri's voice seems quite fitting, I adore the voices of Gunter and Jozak, but Wolfram's voice is my absolutely favorite. (He was voiced by Mona Marshal, who I instantly recognized as Izzy from the first season of Digimon, among other things.)
Now, as for the actual story: I think it would be best classified as Shounen-ai/Parody, as it is obviously making fun of the typical Magical Girl/ Reverse Harem genre. But somewhere along the line, it seems to develop a plot of its own, and relies less on parodying previously existing anime. Even so, the story doesn't really make a mad dash in any particular direction. Rather, it sort of meanders along at its own pace, which is actually sort of enjoyable.
Even though this show is generally referred to as Shounen-ai, it just makes the cut. Though Yuri and Wolfram are technically engaged (not a big spoiler, since it happens in episode 2) there doesn't seem to be a whole lot to their relationship. They occasionally sleep in the same bed (at Wolfram's insistence), and they spend a lot of time together, but their relationship still seems closer to a friendly rivalry. Still, they have their moments, and you tend to get the feeling that they might work it out in the end (once Yuri stops being such a spaz, maybe).
As is common in Harem-type anime, most of the other characters also appear to be at least slightly in love with Yuri- some obviously (like Gunter), some quietly (like Conrad), some grudgingly (like Gwendal). Regardless of how they act towards him, you can tell that everyone genuinely likes Yuri. And I think that's one of the things that makes this a good anime; Yuri is one of those charming characters that manages to somehow get everyone on his side, without even realizing it. Watching how people react to the 'fierce' Demon King's surprising innocence is one of my favorite things about this show.
I do love Kyou Kara Maou, really. But I don't think it's quite deserving of 5 stars. I'd have liked to have given it a 4.5, but oh well. As I've said, it's quite a good show. Lot's of fun, and some wonderful characters. But it's not the best shounen-ai anime, and it's not the best over-all anime. When compared to some of my other favorites it just doesn't quite hold up. But just because it's not Junjou Romantica or Fullmetal Alchemist doesn't mean it's not a great anime.
So, if you're looking for a nice decently long anime with lots of slashable guys, a good deal of hinting, and plenty of light-hearted fantasy adventure, go ahead and give this one a shot. You might even be able to convince your non-Yaoi friends to watch it too, without embarrassing anyone. ^^;
