I had really high hopes for this game after I saw the gorgeous, softly-coloured CGs (by Kannagi no Tori’s artist I think) but sadly the plot didn’t go in a direction I liked. And the only girl in this game who dresses like Country Gothloli isn’t treated very well.

Dick is a young boy living in a village who is bored with schoolwork and his everyday life. One day, he attends the village fair and meets a mysterious boy dressed like a court jester called Guillered who offers to bring him to a world called Laughter Land where one’s every wish is granted and there is no work, only play and no one ever grows up. Dick agrees and is brought to Laughter Land. Sounds like a cross between Peter Pan and Alice in Wonderland but of course there is a dark side to Laughter Land because it’s actually Slaughter Land.

I was expecting Laughter Land to be a lot more psychedelic and I didn’t really like Guillered’s background story…oh, this game is kinda shota for those who like this sort of stuff…

Dick: the protagonist. Has a senile grandmother (this is a plot point later)

Guillered: cute shota Pierrot who brings boys to Laughter Land so that they can escape unhappiness. He erases their memories of the real world when he does so. Has a tragic background which I find rather silly.

Is older than he looks. His mother was the priestess of some crazy cult that conducts orgies and Dag is his brother. Laughter Land is a playground he created for unhappy boys who are trying to escape from the real world like him. In the true end, things blows up in his face.

Has a heart-rending background. In the real world, he is sickly and about to die so he decides to follow Guillered into LL to escape death and to enjoy life like normal kids. When he falls in love in Dick, Dick has to make the difficult decision of asking Guillered to erase his memories with Dick because one grows up once one falls in love and both love and growing up are banned in LL. People who start to grow up are banished to a seedy part of LL. If he returns to the real world, he will die.

Pluses: Beautiful artwork (graphics are so heavy they will kill your pc!) and a wonderful Celtic-influenced soundtrack with unforgettable songs in English and Latin. I swear I’m gonna play the songs on a harp one day! I listen to the soundtrack all day.

Minuses: Limited pairings and endings, not much smex and a really, looooong draggy story. Give me Togainu anyday…

Game is set in an alternate world of catboys who have their own myths and civilization. Konoe (Akira with cat-ears) is an orphaned young catboy living alone in a village which is suffering from starvation and has turned to cannibalism. The forest is suffering from a mysterious blight called Utsuro which causes everything to die and many catpeople are also suffering from a mysterious fatal illness called Shikku which has killed off most female cats.

When Konoe’s ears and tail suddenly turn an unlucky black colour for unknown reasons, he had to leave his childhood home to keep the famished villagers from killing him for food. He sets out on a quest to get rid of his curse…

Charas:
Konoe: He is a sanga with brown/white ears/tail with a kink. The catboys fight in pairs, the touga does the actual fighting and the sanga supplies energy to the touga by emitting magical wordless song from his body. Sorta like Loveless, only the catboys retain their ears/tails even after losing their virginity.

Rai: A cold, one-eyed, silver-haired mercenary that Konoe meets. Has a very nice fluffy white tail, icy blue eyes and wants Konoe to be his sanga. Teaches Konoe a great deal. *luvs the tail* I wanna ears and tail too!

Asato: from a special village where the cats are big and have naturally black ears and tails. Konoe meets him when he visits the village to see if the villagers can tell him why his ears/tails have changed colour. Good fighter but dumb and innocent.

In this game, the three main paths are Rai, Asato and Bardo. Further juicy info, the catboys have a mating season and pretty, young nekos who don't want to be gang-raped have to stay indoors during this period.Konoe is a virgin when the game starts because he goes into mating mode for the first time later in the game.One wonder what human society will be like if we have mating seasons too...

I have played around 20 different BL games but this is still my absolute favourite, for the artwork, gritty, urban atmosphere, industrial soundtrack (I love the ending “Still” sung in English by Itou Kanako. Her accent sucks so bad that I actually wondered what language the song was in but the lyrics make me cry ;_: The lyrics fit the game perfectly) and the smex lol! Warning, this game is a bit gorey and not for people who dun like bdsm like I do Woot!

The game is set in a post-apocalyptic Tokyo after WWIII. Akira, an orphaned young man who has made a name for himself in Blaster (a fighting tournament where killing is not allowed) is accused of a murder he did not commit and sent to jail. The authorities make a deal with him to set him free if he would go to Toshima (a particularly lawless area ruled by a mysterious figure called Irure) and participate in a fight to the death tournament called Igura. Not gonna reveal the whole plot coz it’ll take me all day.

The SF storyline is rather weak and as some people have pointed out, full of inconsistencies and anyway I used the auto button throughout lol Would make a great OAV though! Also, if you look at the nitrochiral website, they’re selling Akira’s jacket and Rin’s boots and so on in both girl and guy versions! I want Akira’s jacket for cosplay lol!

Anyway, other characters:

Keisuke: Akira’s childhood buddy who grew up in the same orphanage and looks up to Akira. Follows Akira to Toshima without his permission. My favourite pairing because of the whole osanajimi factor. It's obvious that Keisuke has been waiting to get into Akira's pants for the longest time and I enjoyed their happy ending.

Shiki: Shiki is so hot! I love those red eyes and black leather and of course the katana he’s always polishing, even after sex lol. He is the strongest fighter in Igura and has a bone to pick with nano due to past issues. Shiki falls in love with Akira because he is the only one who looks into his ruby eyes without being afraid.

Rin: A cute, helpful girly young man Akira and Keisuke bumps into in Toshima who shows them around. Has a hobby of taking photos of corpses. However, he’s a strong fighter despite being more feminine than I am.

Motomi: a oyaji reporter who hangs around Toshima. Not into stubbly middle-aged men sorry…

Arbitro: Works for Irure, referee of Igura and drug syndicate kingpin and wears a mask 24 hrs. He has gaudy tastes in clothes and décor and his hobby is enslaving pretty young men who have lost in Igura. His victims get to be tattooed, body-pierced, scarred and have their body parts removed and are subjected to extreme plastic surgery according to his depraved tastes. If he doesn’t keep them himself, he hands them out to Igura victors as prizes. (He does females only for special requests, sorry so us girls can’t apply.) His mansion is full of statues of nekkid young men like Michelangelo's David as well as a fake medieval dungeon.

Arbitro= sick individual with childhood issues. Apparently as a child, his parents had a hobby of confining pretty boys and abusing them as sex toys. Dog: Arbitro’s favourite slave. He was a victim of parental abuse (sexual and otherwise) and left for dead. He was picked up by Arbitro so he is pathetically grateful and loyal when Arbitro gave him food etc. Conditioned to be a victim, he endures all the surgery Arbitro forces upon him which includes removal of his eyes, voicebox, and surgery to modify his nose to become super-sensitive. Not mention scars, piercings etc. Normally appears blindfolded and in hardcore bdsm leather bondage gear.

Nano: I like to call him Ipod! Mysterious figure who wanders around Toshima spouting philosophical nonsense.

Was in orphanage together with Akira and another victim of the scientific experiment though Akira has had his memories of their time together purged. The drug Lain is made from his blood and gives strength to Igura fighters. Akira’s blood is the antidote to Lain.
Gunzi: One of Arbitro’s executioners. Wild blond hair (dyed?), six-pack abs and wears a pink parka and has a lot of tribal tattoos. Sadistic and likes the taste of blood.

Kiriwar: The other executioner. Ex-soldier or something and an oyaji. Likes to eat human flesh.

I wish I can go back in time and play this game all over again! *sob* Anyone knows a bl game like this to rec pls pm me.

Kurosaki Ichiya is a young (25yo) successful young businessman. He has a loyal secretary called Yoshioka aged 31 who used to work for his father before he transferred allegiances. He goes back to his hometown (which he left as a boy when his mother died) to inspect a building his company is constructing. He bumps into 3 young men by accident and decides to stay in his hometown for one month to ensnare the 3 bishies by making them go into debt so that he can acquire them as sex slaves! Lol I dunno why but the opening theme of the game always make me guffaw...something about the outrageous nature of the plot in which Kurosaki thinks up ingenious ways to get the bishies in debt like selling them lucky items and other crap, framing them for molest and sneaking into their house to set their tempura pans on fire and so on.Gameplay is very cute and very Japanese. Plus if the bishies get distressed enough, they'll join cults!!!

Actually story-wise, I find oreshita the most interesting game I have ever played! It's obvious that Kurosaki has unresolved Papa issues! When the game starts, we go into a long flashback about Kurosaki's childhood triggered off by the hometown visit and his bad relationship with his father who cheated on his mum or something(Mum then died when he was in high school). The game seems to imply that Kurosaki's sick impulse to enslave bishies is a direct result of his lack of paternal luuuuuuv!

Gameplay is very innovative. Alice Medora did a good English capture guide.

Because of the random nature of the games, I just can’t get the secretary sex scenes though grrr! PM me if you know how.There are also special sexual harassment scenes but I only managed to get the one in which Yamaguchi gets molested...sooo frustrating...

Thoughts on charas:

The secretary: Well, the guy is just too loyal to be real! I mean, he's acting as a procurer by helping Kurosaki in his sick games! Does he have feelings for the young master?! They're obviously very close and K depends on him a lot though they haven’t slept together when the game starts. A father figure substitute? Supplier of sublimated concern for the love K lacks?

Bishie target Higuchi: Higuchi was Kurosaki’s high school classmate and friend. He now runs a flowershop he inherited from his father. Unfortunately, he was tricked out of his land rights for the shop and needs money to buy back the land from the new property owner, who happens to be Kurosaki. Higuchi saw Kurosaki in his weakest moments when he was an unhappy high schooler so I think for Kurosaki, Higuchi represents his emotionally vulnerable childhood self as seen in the flashbacks. In order to suppress his memories and his former innocence, K finds it necessary to destroy Higuchi's naivete by enslaving and betraying him. Higuchi sometimes presumes on their past friendship but Kurosaki disabuses him (depends on the choices you make).

Bishie target Shimizu: Shimizu is quite young but he is forced to work as a construction worker because his parents owed a lot of money and ran away in the night, abandoning him. He is very poor, no money to eat well (just like me! ;_ and studies on his own, hoping to save up $$ to go to university and study law.

I think Kurosaki sees himself in Shimizu who suffers from a lack of parental love too, having been abandoned by them. The scene in which he is sick and calling for his parents like a child in his wretched apartment is really pitiful. Shimizu is envious of Kurosaki's education but it's obvious as the game points out that Kurosaki doesn't find himself lucky despite his privileged upbringing because of his dysfunctional family circumstances. Shimizu looks upon Kurosaki as a kindly older brother so he is shocked when Kurosaki turns upon him. Actually this story reminds me of volume 2 of Love Mode in a twisted way lol

Yamaguchi: Yamaguchi is 29 and a widower who worked for Kurosaki’s company as an ordinary employee but quit to spend more time with his seriously sick young son. He has massive medical bills to pay for his son which creates an opening for Kurosaki. He is devoted to his son and significantly is older than Kurosaki so obviously a father figure for Kurosaki.

This is clearly seen in the dialogue. Yamaguchi says "You really just wanted your father's love, didn't you?" in one of the sex scenes and Kurosaki also said "Don't treat me like a child" when Yamaguchi touches him. Due to his issues lol, Kurosaki tortures Yamaguchi by making him call his kid on the phone during the candle wax sex scene and by f**king him to punish him for pointing out the truth. I'm not sure what to call his Papa complex...not Oedipal certainly

Basically, to compensate for lack of papa luuvvv, Kurosaki settles for a wild sex life with bishies instead lol! He needs therapy to learn about fulfilling adult relationships!

Gameplay: A bit complex though it's the usual clicking but easy if you follow the capture guide.

Basically, you have to visit the four countries in turn and in the right order so that no country feels slighted if you pay too many visits to their enemy or you risk being made to pay a visit to the country you slighted or getting a bad end. If you click on the status button, you can find out if things are good politically (green is good, red means danger) and romantically.

You make 2 visits per month and at the end of the year if you make all the right choices (I followed the Japanese capture guide), you will get New Year invitations from the countries in question. You can choose which invitation to accept and then it's a piece of cake to get the endings you want. Each country has two charas for you to have sex with, one will be the crown prince plus one extra character. If you follow the guide I used, it will tell you when to save. Just follow the charts. I recommend getting all the crown princes' endings first by choosing to meet them when you visit their countries and saving when the New Year invites come the first time round.

You will have to play through the year again to get the endings with the secondary characters, this time choosing to meet them when you visit their countries and again saving when the invites come so that you can backtrack. You play through a third time, this time choosing to meet the princes to get the normal ending (where Kurt get crowned) and Stellan's endings. In between, there are some special choices to make e.g. going to Stellan's room but it's all explained in the guide. My explanation's kinda complex.

After you get all the happy endings, you will be able to unlock the hidden character. From the title page, go to Goat's Diary and you will see a new character. You can get the hidden character's endings by clicking him.

Charas:
Kurt: Innocent, a bit annoying. Brown hair and green eyed uke. Our protagonist. He loves to eat, especially desserts and hates the homework Stellan gives him.
Kurt is the ultimate uke! When I saw Fifi, I thought Kurt might be seme for once seeing that Fifi is both girlier and shorter than he is but...lol

Stellan: Bespectacled loyal tutor. Serious personality. Green hair

Candy: Kurt's white pet kid (goat). Loves to eat.

Yes, Candy is an enchanted prince. White hair and red eyes! Very cute. You will visit all four countries and if you make the right choices you will free him and get the happy end. Also, after you have gotten the happy ending with Candy, you will be able to understand his bleating. I guessed that he was a prince even before reading the capture guide.

Celestine: A pseudo-Western European country like Kurt's. Culture is supposed to be close to K's and the arts are flourishing.

Reinhard: Crown prince with blond hair and blue eyes. He's a great cook and dancer. Kurt thinks he looks just like a storybook prince. Has a older half-brother Julius who was born of a different mother

I love the endings for the Celestine charas best. Reinhard has an incestuous love for his older brother in some of the endings. Yes, being the twisty person I am, I enjoyed the messed-up 3 p bad ending plus the slave ending in which R loses all contact with reality and keeps Kurt as his sex slave thinking K is his older brother. Scaryyyy....

Julius: Long white hair, white cravat, a bit feminine. When K finds him sleeping on a bed of roses, K thought he looked like a sleeping princess. Not on good terms with his brother plus the succession is an issue ‘cos Julius is a bastard.

Hinomoto(another way of reading Nihon really): as the name suggests, based on Japan. Decor and architecture a mix of Western and Japanese. People have black hair/eyes.

Shuuichi: Crown prince, a bit unfriendly, likes to wave his riding crop around. Sexually frigid because of his bad relationship with his licentious father whom he despises. Hates being touched and has no interest in either males or females at first. His butterfly collection is creeeepy...I thought the scene where his father gives him "the joy of gay sex" book was funny...


Kiyoharu: Emperor? King? Shuuichi's father. Unlike his dutiful son, likes to spend his time in teahouses. His wife died giving birth to his son. Likes cosplay.

Chalcedony: Sort of Arabian Nights desert country.

Naseeruddin: Crown prince with a lot of tattoos. Spends his day lounging on his bed and has a harem. Is under a curse because he was born at the wrong time.

Fifi: His servant. Looks like a harem girl except for flat chest. Shorter than Kurt and keeps coming on to Kurt but Kurt is totally clueless. Knows magic. Wonder if he’s a bellydancer like moi!

Fenrir A troubled, new country that's still quite savage. Populated by half-beasts.

Wind: Dogboy and crown prince. Has two tails!

Katze: Wind's childhood friend and right-hand man. Leather-clad Catboy.

Overall, this isn't my fav but still worth a play I suppose.

Beautiful, bright and clear art with vivid colours indeed and as another fan said, there are a lot more sex scenes than Silver Chaos. Soundtrack is unremarkable but it's fully voiced. It's set in Meiji Japan and I love how the designer tried to make everything look old-fashioned and Japanese. The Japanese seems to be slightly archaic too.

Hanamachi (literally flower town) is a term meaning the pleasure quarter so I immediately guessed that "Pleasure quarter story" must be about prostitutes, in this case, male ones called kagema.

Our uke hero Suri has a English father and Japanese mother so he has blond hair and blue eyes which he gets bullied for. His parents died so at the beginning he is working as a servant at a brothel(the female kind) where he is beaten, starved and overworked. He catches the eye of Tatsumi, the owner of a infamous male brothel called Hanabishi who buys him over.Talk about melodrama. Memoirs of a Gay Prostitute?

Once he gets to the brothel, (at first he was too dumb to realize he was sold into prostitution), he gets a nice kimono, a nice room of his own and nice food for the first time in his life. Wow, this game makes me wish I'm a male prostitute! *insert sarcasm* He meets various other characters and that's when the real story(and sex) starts.

A rundown of characters:
Suri- Parents died when he was very young. Illiterate and in general an innocent uke. (Ok, he was seme with Izumi) Looks better grown-up. Doesn't appreciate his own Eurasian looks. Fortunately, his lovers convince him otherwise.

Tatsumi-brothel owner, severe, cold, wears glasses. Kichiku seme type.

Came from a good family but his father was too perfectionistic, controlling and demanding...papa also favoured older brother and beats him so Tatsumi decides to run away, change his surname and start a brothel instead of becoming a respectable soldier like the obedient older brother. Plus he hated his brother for not taking his side. Under the cold exterior is a messed-up little boy! He can only show his soft side when Shuri is asleep.

Kagami- Masato and Tatsumi's uncle. Middle-aged successful businessman who travels overseas for business. Loves Western things. He helped out financially with the setting up of the brothel so Tatsumi owes him a favour.

Igarashi- famous shunga (Japanese erotic paintings) artist. He's using a hut on the brothel grounds as his atelier.

My only real complaint about the game is that I wish there aren't so many older male semes. It's a bit icky to see Suri having sex with Kagami who looks so much older.

Tip: by the time you get to Suri's mizuage, you will have a good idea which storyline you are following by seeing who shows up so you can backtrack if it's someone you don't want. "Mizuage" is an interesting Japanese term and in this context it means Suri's first customer who will get to (paying extra I assume) *cough* deflower him. After that he will be a ichininmae no kagema (full-fledged kagema). *sweatdrops* Another interesting term is hanadai (flower fee). Nope, it doesn't refer to the money you pay for flowers but a euphemism for the fee paid for Suri's "services" lol

I can't decide which characters I like best, I like Izumi, Sakuya, Igarashi and Tatsumi!

One of the endings in this game made me cry. This was the one in which Izumi regresses permanently to childhood after being confronted with the truth about his past and Shuri takes on the burden of supporting both of them by doing double work both as servant and prostitute. He's doomed to an early death from STDs and overwork.

This game is set in a fantasy version of medieval Europe and everyone appears to be wearing Gothic Lolita style clothing. Count Georik Zaberisk who comes from a illustrious but cursed family used to work as a court doctor for the King of Hardland. However, he left his job and his boyhood friends to look after his sickly sister Lilith in a country village. His parents are deceased and one day while he is away, his sister is set upon by the villagers for witchcraft and she is beheaded.

Georik comes back to find that his sister’s head is still alive and tries all ways and means to keep her alive, even if it means dabbling in the illegal dark arts of alchemy and consorting with Mephistofeles.

This has gorgeous Gothic art, the men appear to be wearing makeup lol and the soundtrack is classical/operatic/Gregorian chant and gorgeous. You have to solve some puzzles to get through the game, there is a time limit for making choices and you have to search for and combine alchemy items. Pretty tricky if you’re playing the Japanese edition like me!

Bruno Glening: Effeminate, evil court physician. Played by Koyasu Takehito.

Francis Dashwood: A dubious servant of the Earl of Sandwich who’s involved with the Hellfire Club. Hits on everything male. Dashwood, Sandwich and the Hellfire Club really existed. Look it up if you don’t believe me.
