Hetalia - Axis Powers is a popular webmanga and the anime version will be airing at the end of January 2009! Our fansub team is interested to fansub it. It's not yaoi or shounen-ai though but since it's quite slashable...so yeah. I've not read the webmanga myself, but two of my fansub teammates have read it and like it... heard it's hillarious. So I am looking forward to it too!~

Studio DEEN's television anime version of Hidekazu Himaruya's Hetalia - Axis Powers web manga has been announced via the launch of the anime's official Japanese website. The "cynical gag" story mainly recounts the era between World War I and World War II, with the stereotypical characteristics of each country or region (particularly northern Italy) anthropomorphized as bishōnen. For example, Italia Veneziano is into pasta and women. Deutsch (Germany) loves potatoes and sausages, and Nippon is an otaku boy. Installments of the manga have jumped back and forth in setting from the ancient times to modern-day geopolitics. The manga's title comes the Japanese words for "useless" (hetare) and Italy (Italia).

The manga was compiled this past March by Gentosha into one volume, of which over 250,000 copies were published. On August 15, the story will be also adapted into a drama CD and trading cards, with another CD coming in October.
