At last, Junjou Romantica Season 2 has come to an end! What happens next? Will there be a Season 3? We all want to know! Thanks GenericWit for creating this FAQ!

Hihi! So, basically, I decided to make a FAQ because a lot of people ask the same questions and don't feel like scrolling through pages to see the answers. If you want to add a question to it, just respond here, and I'll add it. I consider myself a JJR pro so... I can pretty much answer anything anime/manga related.

Will there be a season 3?

We don't know. As far as I know, at the moment, no. There's not really any manga material for them to keep going so if there were to be one, it would be original material. That's the short answer.

All the characters look the same! Help!

Right. *coughs* This question is not as uncommon as people might think so here I am to the rescue with a quick guide to characters! Beware of beginning spoilers!
The first two episodes deal exclusively with Usami and Misaki (Romantica).
The third episode deals with Nowaki and Hiroki (egoist). However, it does show a young Usami (see below questions for more details) so don't be confused.
The fourth episode is Romantica. The fifth episode and sixth episodes are Egoist. The seventh and eighth episodes are Romantica. The ninth episode deals with Usami and Hiroki when they were kids.
The tenth and eleventh episodes are about Miyagi and Shinobu (Terrorist).
The last episode of the first season is back to Romantica.
After that you should know who the characters are. Be advised that the other characters do make cameos (such as Nowaki working in the flower shop where Misaki buys flowers for Usami). Just keep watching, and it'll click for you. I promise.
To add my own commentary... if you're following the manga, there will be closeups of Hiroki and Misaki where they look *a lot* like each other. I can understand where you might be confused about those two at first, but you'll learn their personalities soon enough. Plus, you'll see based on the pairings who's who, but like I said, you'll get the hang of it soon enough.

How old is everyone?

As of the start of the series, Misaki is 18, Akihiko (Usagi) is 28, Hiroki is 28, Nowaki is 24, Shinobu is 18ish (I say that because he doesn't come in right at the start of the series), and Miyagi is 35ish.
In the later part, add a year. Really everyone adds a year besides Shinobu. That's because Shinobu's and Miyagi's storyline starts later and doesn't even until he's 18. He's less than a year younger than Misaki. Don't think about it too much because your head might explode.

But I thought that Nowaki was 18 and Hiroki was 22!

Right, well, their first episodes/manga chapters are set 6 years before the start of the series. 6 years before the start, Hiroki loved Usami who loved Takahiro (Misaki's brother). Then, Hiroki met Nowaki, and they've been dating ever since. Then, five years later, Nowaki goes away for about a year. Then he comes back after the year, and that's when the storylines start. Do they all know each other?

Well, Hiroki and Akihiko are childhood friends so they know each other.
Hiroki also knows Miyagi since he works with him.
Hiroki also briefly knows Shinobu from having walked in on him and Miyagi.
Hiroki also knows Misaki because of class and running into each other.
Nowaki knows Misaki because Misaki came in to buy flowers.
Nowaki knows Akihiko.
Miyagi knows Akihiko from the time Akihiko spends in his and Hiroki's shared office.
Miyagi knows Nowaki from Nowaki kicking his arse. Tee hee.
Misaki knows Miyagi from school.
So, they all pretty much know each other but only Hiroki/Akihiko and Hiroki/Miyagi really know each other closely.
Except for Shinobu who doesn't really know anyone... Heh.

What do we know about the guys' romantic pasts? Beware of spoilers.

Well... not much. Here's what we do know so far:
- What we know about Ryuuichiro from mistake.
- Akihiko/Hiroki have known each other since they were kids. That's when Hiroki presumably first fell "in love" with him.
- Akihiko/Hiroki have had sex.
- Akihiko liked Takahiro, Misaki's brother.
- Hiroki has had at least one lover in the past making his "men he had sex with" count to *at least* 3.
- Misaki is very virginal prior to Akihiko (as far as we know).
- Shinobu was a virgin prior to Miyagi.
- Miyagi was married.
- Miyagi was in love with his sensei.
- Nowaki, presumably, has never really had a relationship before Hiroki or at least has never been in love.

What is the JJR website?

As far as I know, there isn't an official English site that says much of anything other than "coming soon" or something of that sort.

You can download it right her from aarinfantasy. Click for bittorrent. Click for host links.

Where can I buy a subbed anime?

Nowhere as of now. You can buy the Japanese, but currently, there isn't a place to buy it in English so enjoy it here while it's free. Alternatively, they do have official releases like the Malaysian release, but uh... the English subs are more than subpar since they were added sort of as an after-thought so I don't recommend any of those. There's no official ones, only bootlegs that ebay seelers are claiming to be official, with false authentication stickers--SO DO NOT BUY! (Thanks Sawwie-chan for this info!). Hold out for a western release.

Where can I download manga?

You can't. It's licensed. The main series anyway. It's up to volume 11 in Japanese. You can buy it up to volume 8 in English from retailers such as Barnes and Noble and Amazon.

What are the couples called?

Junjou Romantica: Takahashi Misaki x Usami Akihiko
Junjou Egoist: Kamijou Hiroki x Kusama Nowaki
Junjou Terrorist: Takatsuki Shinobu x Miyagi Yo
Junjou Mistake (side story/before start of series): Isaka Ryuuichiro x Asahina Kaoru
Junjou Minimum (side story/when they were kids): Hiroki x Akihiko
Get used to these terms. They're used a lot.

S2E4, what's that anime at the end?

What's the difference between uncensored and censored releases?

Basically nothing. You know that small shadow that blocks out a little more skin? Well, it's that. Click for more.

Is there a game?

Yeah, but it's in Japanese. Good luck with import prices. You can click to download it here though.

What about merchandise?

Good luck with that, too. I recommend ebay or making your own like I have. Also, click here. If you know some basic Japanese, you should be able to navigate it alright. If anyone has anything else, feel free to share the links.

How closely does the anime follow the manga?

Pretty much exactly. Word for word, in fact, for the most part. They omit parts as they please (like a lot of the sexual content and some of the story lines), but it's pretty good about following.

Why isn't there more egoist/terrorist?

If you know the answer to this, let me know. There's no reason other than the fact that the creators might be trying to appeal to a certain audience and think most people like Romantica more. If you want more of either couple, I definitely recommend checking out the manga.

How dirty is it?

Hah. Well, the manga is pretty explicit. The first season has some somewhat raunchy scenes, but it's no Enzai. On the other hand, it's also not Gakuen Heaven. The second season tones down the sex a lot.

Vampireyaoilove, the mistake couple doesn't appear in the anime at all, and because it's considered a different story, you won't find it in the same place with the junjou romantica manga even though the characters are the same that appear in it, just with much smaller parts.

I really hope there will be a season 3, and there have been some new chapters up so it's not on completely new material

I wish I hade this guide when I was watching JR Season 1 because I was SO freaking confused when Egoist came into play. I swore that Misaki had cheated or left Usami during the timeskip. Then when Romantica came back I was like, wait a minute---WTF?! I did a little research (wikipedia) and found out at least half of the truth. (Back then, the character descriptions were like, just a sentence.)I couldn't believe how far from the storyline I had gotten. smilies/grin.gif

Anyway, I really hope that season three will come to fruition. I wouldn't mind having an OVA that included a few Romantica-sex romps. smilies/cheesy.gif

I love Junjou romantica. I really hope that there is a season 3!!!!!!!! Seconding what Angieboys said. I'm already on my 4th rewatch of the series! It's just so cute and so easy to watch and never fails to lift my spirits if I'm in a bad mood (maybe it's because seeing Misaki freak out or Hiro-san throw a fit helps relieve some of my own bad feelings? XD). The best BL series, imo. (Also, I think it's hilarious that out of everyone, Hiroki probably knows the most of the other characters XD).

Junjou was one of my all time favorites, hope there is a season 3...becaus ethey left us on a hanger , with questions like whats gonna happen to masaki and usagi...as the last episode usagi's father said that there will be ppl who will try to pull them apart, and would love to know what happens to nowaki and hiroki as they just moved into a bigger house and what about the outcome of miyagi and shinobu, they just started out also...there would be alot of people who would love to see this series go on ...this series could have also been a long one because the plot line is long enough and theres so many things that can happen.

Why wouldn't there be another Season? They basically set it up for another season didn't they?
Last time I know Misaki and Usami had just gotten permission from Usami-chichi. So wouldn't that set them up for knowing that they don't have to worry about his father making a big deal out of it and his brother would stop trying to take Misaki?
Then.. didn't Nowaki and Hiroki just plan to move in together for Nowaki's sake? Shouldn't they then show you how everything is going for them in the next (should-be) season?
And what about Miyagi and Shinobu? Didn't Miyagi just tell Shinobu that he was in love with him? Shouldn't they go on to show further how that couple is doing?

~I love this Yaoi! I was so sad when it ended! There need's to be a Season Three... Don't cha think? smilies/wink.gif

I think my favorite MisakiUsagi moment was either when Misaki starts to do things his own because he wants to be like hoe Usagi writes him to be in the book... or.. the one where they are in the Farris Wheel and Misaki finally tells Usagi that he likes him.

An anime adaptation is in the works for Shungiku Nakamura's Sekai-ichi Hatsukoi boys-love manga. I can't wait! I hope it airs sometime this year.(*fingers crossed*)

I've been wondering for awhile now and I haven't got an exact answer but, will there possibly be a season 3 to Junjo Romantica? I'm not sure what it would be based on but I just finished watching both seasons again. I'm also reading the manga and I so far bought 7 volumes of it. Also, who is the actual director in making Junjo Romantica? Is it actually Aarinfantasy who makes the videos or do you support the show?

No one knows if there will be a season 3 as of yet. The anime did pretty well as far as sells go so maybe in the future when more volumes are released. The director of Junjou Romantica is Chiaki Kon. Aarinfantasy fansubs the show for people who don't speak Japanese. They are fans and support the show. Hope that helped. smilies/grin.gif

@kristineanne BL means boys love . It isn't a manga, is more like a type , boys' love = yaoi. But something called Junai Terrorist and Junai Romantica exisT (stories written by usagi san about him and misaki and hiro san and nowaki) . smilies/cheesy.gif

So if anyone was still curious or hasn't come across any already they have started selling JR merch in the US!
I found a lovely Suzuki-san keychain at ACEN.
They also had some phone straps and various...mouse-pad/card things. And stationary! Lol.

I could not remember how many times I watched it over and over again.

Great to hear that you're a JJR Pro~! I just have this very confusing question!

At the end of episode 3, Hiroki said "A while later, Nowaki disappeared.", then "6 Years Later" came on screen. I thought that it means a while later after Hiroki accept him (i.e. just after Hiroki gave him the flowers), Nowaki disappeared. After 6 years, Hiroki then received postcard from him saying he's coming back. But in episode 5, Hiroki said "an entire year", and Nowaki said "study abroad program is two years but he managed to complete in one year", which make me very confused!!! Why is it that episode 5 said Nowaki disappeared for one year only??? Didn't episode 3 said 6 years?
Or is it that actually, they have already been together for 5 years, then Nowaki disappeared for one year, then the last of episode 3 occured, continued w/ the starting of episode 5? It's just that the anime omit the part that they've been together for 5 years and directly jump to six years later, which the last (6th) year Nowaki disappeared?
Sigh, why so confusing...OTZ

Another one, the storyline timing. Episode 3, i.e. Hiroki met Nowaki should be before Usami met Misaki right? Although episode 1 show the meeting between Usami & Misaki first, correct?

I've known him as Usagi, but here it is Usami. Which one would be correct then?

hello hello. Eserpess here and im sorry for putting a black mark on your very well written article but i have one problem with it and im shore other fans like myselfof the junjou romantica series would just DIE! to know.

About the part where you cant bye it legally as yet in english subb, that is incorrect. A leagal released season 1 was released early this year (2010), it was not dubbed however the english translations were very good. however its only to my knoledge bean released in america and japan, so for ppl who bye the american series you mite have problems with your area code depending n what part of the world you live in.
I live in Australia and i bought the america codded however a litttle device installed into my computer andi can whatch any anime dvd that are outside R4....so have fun you can probably get it from the official website or ebay but you should be able to order it in at your local manga store XD

Just to let you know regarding veiwing a DVD not coded for your area if you have windows media player there is an opp that can be changed you juts have to change the region location to your particular area it should show a drop down menu and you can change the country.
I've only ever used windows media and its worked for a DVD I bought while in the UAE a few years back and again when I lived in Japan. The best part is it doesnt mean you have to leave it and you just change it back to default to watch DVD from the states. smilies/grin.gif

You could add to the "Where can I buy a subbed anime?"-section that Junjo Romantica is available now. Season one came out officially subbed by Rightstuf on May 4, 2010.

Also, to the "What is the JJR website?"-section, where you only have the useless link to Kadokawa Pictures USA, it'd be good to add the English Rightstuf's Junjo Romantica-website. That one isn't useless, it's got lots of stuff:

Aarinfantasy doesn't make Junjou Romantica they are a fansubs group. Right now it doesn't look like there will be any more seasons of Junjou Romantica. Now they are creating a TV series called Sekai-ichi Hatsukoi by the same writer as Junjou Romantica. It should be released either late this year or sometime next year. Look forward to that! smilies/grin.gif

Many of the sites I have been to say there will not be a season 3. But on the other hand there are still many other sites that speak of rumors of a season 3. Though, most of those "rumors" are from 2 years ago.
Keep hoping and praying tho. But from where it stands, i believe it's a very dead locked 50/50 chance. No one can truly say. Just keep fingers crossed!

wish they're going to make Season 3, they don't have to use their own material since the manga created new chapters and if there isn't enough they can always use the Junjou Egoistic and Junjou Terrorist shapters that they've skipped (the anime cut out alot of their story just to show Junjou Romantica) or they can always add the Junjou Mistake chapter in it.

The above link is one of shingiku Nakamura's manga made into an anime adaptation, and it is said to air on april of 2011. Since Nakamura sensei likes to mash up her characters in one dimension, (?) I guess there are still traces of junjou romantica there. Like how in this story, the marukawa publishing company is mentioned, and Akihiko's name is also mentioned several times. however, this is a completely different story with a different pairing, although I do reccomend you to read it!! the story is just as awesome. by the way, the manga title: sekaiichi hatsukoi,available on mangafox smilies/grin.gif

Actually there is an authentic released version of the subbed anime ^^ It was released by right stuf and you can buy both seasons off their website rightstuf.com ^^ I know because I have both seasons and, while I really do prefer aarinfantasy's word choices better, I love having the seasons on disc!

I understand that everyone wants a season 3 so bad. yet, i felt satisfied with the ending of the anime i read the manga continuously but if there were to be a season 3 I would be happy. The thing that really surprised me about this show is that I am exactly like Usami. Not even kidding. Half sibling we don't get along what so ever. Dad off working, Mother leaving for her hobbies. Growing up alone acting to rebel and writing stories secretly. Having a really close bestfriend that I would only share my stories with. And moving away from my hometown which I miss very much and have only one close friend. Very nostalgic. Except that he is gay, has kissed his bestfriend, has a butler, is a author already (i'm in progress..), lived in England, and held a secret love for his bestfriend. Well yeah I love her, but not in that way. Anyway let's just pray and see if they make our dream come true if not Junjou will always be in our hearts and the manga is still there.
