Based on the popular boys love visual novel game Togainu no Chi from Nitro+chiral.
After being devastated in the third World War (known as The Third Division), Japan was divided in two. Several years after the end of the war, a crime organization called Vischio has taken control of the destroyed city of Toshima (formerly Tokyo, Japan's capital city), where they are holding a battle game known as Igura. The game's main character, a young man named Akira, is falsely accused of a crime. Once arrested, a mysterious woman appears before him, offering him freedom if he agrees to participate in Igura and defeat Igura's strongest man: the king, or Il-re. The story follows Akira's life in the harsh, lawless Toshima as he fights both to survive and to unravel the mysteries developing around him.

Togainu no Chi: A Story of Violence and Honor, Lov
This review does *not* contain spoilers.
Togainu no Chi (TV) is an anime based on the acclaimed BL game with the same name, made by Nitro+Chiral. It is a sad and touching BL-themed anime, but which leaves some space for hope.
What made me give it this high ranting is it’s novelty in the BL animes. Forget about the fantasy setting or contemporary city full of bishies which have more or less all the problems of a stereotypical teen drama. Togainu is different. The hero’s life takes a dangerous downturn and every step which he will make may well be his last. In his journey he will meet intriguing dealers, sadistic rulers, mysterious über-powerful enemies (if ‘enemy‘ indeed is the right word) – each and every one either wanting to kill him or saving him (when is unable to do it for himself).
As a note: do not watch this if you want steamy, revealing, hot scenes of sex. You won’t find any. Revolting a huge mass of the BL game’s fans, the producing company of the anime decided for ‘omitting’ these scenes. Which is not a bad point imo. There are always other animes for this; the original game; pr0n sites (kidding) – you will feel the tension between the male characters and your fantasy can very easily, if you wish that, fulfill those ‘empty’ spaces. But for me those are not empty spaces. In fact, they are, imo, a strength of this anime in portraying the lead characters not as sexually compulsive persons, but real, tangible, developed male characters with male identities.
