Cry fell for Sig the moment he saw him at school, and though they became good friends, the relationship never progressed to what Cry wanted. But when Cry's overprotective brother Hard becomes jealous of him branching-out and having friends, Sig begins to see things in a new light. The second half of the manga focuses on Hard. As Cry drifts away towards independence, what will Hard do, since his sole purpose in life was to protect his brother...?

Also contains a short extra to Inferior Doll.
~from Storm in Heaven

Heaven's Love is a continuation of Inferior Doll, another book by Shimotsuki. Although the characters make a return, it isn't absolutely necessary to get acquainted with them in order to enjoy this one (but I'd recommend it anyway; both books are great). The manga is broken up into four stories:

1. Heaven's Love -- Focuses on Glow's friends/classmates from I.D., Cry and Sig, and their budding relationship. However, Cry's possessive rockstar brother, Hard, isn't too keen on Sig's interest in his beloved little brother...

2. Noise Limiter -- Takes place after Heaven's Love. Story about Hard and the trials of life in a hard rock band.

3. Inferior Doll extra story -- The return of the sex doll Deep and his master, Glow. Short story, relatively PWP for those lacking Japanese fluency such as myself. There's a conversation between Glow, Levy and Levy's Loli droid Nene along with a bit of Deep x Glow.

4. Quiet and Life -- Very short continuation story of Hard and his bandmate Dust. Kairi Shimotsuki has got to be one of my favorite manga-ka. The stories and art are incredibly "shounen" in both style and execution; weepy ukes are few and far between, the scenes are dark and futuristic, and you will never see shoujo sparkles or flowery backgrounds. Shimotsuki's art is top-notch, and character designs are interesting and very sexy for both male and female characters. All in all, this is a very enjoyable manga, even if you don't know much Japanese. I'll be looking forward to whatever Shimotsuki decides to put out next, that's for sure.

Heaven's Love

Reading Heaven's Love was pure pleasure in most ways. The art alone amazed me; it's beautiful in a totally different way from anything I've seen before. It's dark, stylish and kinda..innovative. It's hard to explain what's so special about Kairi Shimotsuki's art, but it truly creates this somewhat unique atmosphere. To me it's still a mystery in what age/world the story takes place, but it only adds to my admiration for this mangaka. Even though very little about the surrounding world is revealed it's enough to set the mood, you got it's a world you've never seen before.

The characters are fascinating and got the deep you need to make them trustworthy. Yet the second part of the manga (about Hard) is my favorite part since I feel you get to know him a bit better than Cry.
Moreover the characters designs are beautiful (not that surprising according to my previous statement about the art huh)and very attractive! Clothing, styles and hair are somewhat daring, yet extremely gorgeous (and this applies to all characters O.O)

As for the plot the only thing this manga is lacking is length. Even though I wasn't disappointed with the plot at all, I'm sure it could have been more to it. I'd really like to see more of Cry's and Hard's relationship and what become of it after Síg entered the stage.

What i liked most about this manga was how unique it was to me. It's so refreshing reading a yaoi manga without cheesy lines and the stereotypical blushing teary uke vs cold seme. I prefer it when you can't tell who's who, but unfortunately you don't come across those sorts of stories that often. However, this is one of them and that's why I'll treasure it for as long as I live. (^.^)
