A good read.

Basic plot summary:

The story centers around partners Taki and Goh, and their growing attraction for each other. They are "snatchers" which means they get paid to steal drugs and other such illegal contraband from dealers and mobsters to handover to the police.

Review (no major spoilers):

Yellow is often compared to "Fake" by Sanami Matoh, but actually the two have little in common besides the obvious crime drama atmosphere and partners who fall for each other.

There is no clear "top" or "bottom" in Yellow. Both Taki and Goh are strong male characters who know how to take care of themselves. They are both young men who are drawn to look like young men. The art is pretty good. The thing that stood out for me was the clothing the characters wear. Makoto Tateno definitely has a good eye for fashion. However, she does like to used the same story elements over and over. Most of the chapters involve Goh hitting on Taki while the two work undercover or search for clues to where to find the drugs they've been hired to snatch. That's about it for the plot until later on when it shifts to focus more on Taki's past and we get a break from the "snatchers" routine.

Goh is openly gay, but Taki is a self-proclaimed heterosexual (guess he hasn't realized he's in a BL manga yet). If you prefer your yaoi couples to be with each other and ONLY each other then this might not be the story for you. A lot of their undercover work involves Goh sleeping around with different pretty-boy ukes and Taki with women. Keep in mind, though, that this is before the two actually get together as a couple. As far as yaoi content goes there is a lot of sex and hot guy-on-guy kissing, but nothing explicitly graphic. Don't get me wrong, it's still graphic, but you will not be seeing any erections or actual penetration. This doesn't distract from the scenes however, which are still very hot.

The interactions between Taki and Goh, whether they are fighting, kissing, or just chatting, are very entertaining. They have great chemistry together, and it's always nice to see a BL couple who you can tell are falling for each other.

I recommend this to any yaoi fan who's looking for a good read. The plot repeats itself sometimes and some of the scenarios the guys get themselves into require a stretch of imagination, but besides that it's fairly good.

I love her art work!

Oh I like this manga. It was the first one I´ve read and I had to buy it ^^ Goh is so cute when he ran after Taki and I really like the ending! I like the way Makoto Tateno draws and with this manga she really did great work! It´s full of action, sex and ramance (a bit ^^)I really wanted to know who gohs first man had been but the mangaka didn´t want it to say at the end...well doesn´t really matter. It´s more important that goh and Tamaki are together. It´s one of my favorite mangas!!

Do not be fooled by the cover. This manga is gorgeous and thrilling, and will definitely have you flipping the pages. The plot seemed a bit cliche in some areas, but Tateno Makoto puts many elements into great use--it never gets boring. Her art is splendid, and definitely shows that Goh and Taki are handsome and equal in terms of "manliness". It's fun to see how the characters are completely different from other mangas. Although homosexual, Goh is not one to be taken lightly. Goh and Taki's interaction with each other is really exciting to read. While Goh hits on his partner, Taki does anything but reciprocate his feelings, threatening Goh's advances with his quick reflexes and weapons. This is definitely worth 5 stars for me, because of the relationship between the characters. Their trust in each other is so deep, it surpasses love. With a bit of mystery, tons of action, a bit of humor, and lots of love; Yellow is definitely a manga all yaoi fans should pick up at least once in their lives.

Buy the box set of this series, lovely artwork, interesting story and a great relationship between the two main characters. One of my first and favourite sets. It's nice to have a good story involving adults, even if they're young adults at 22 as a lot of yaoi novels seem to focus on 15-19 year olds who are still at school or have just left. I love both Goh and Taki and how they interact as their relationship and the trust between them grows, yes there are kissing and sex scenes. The Juné Manga books look great and I wish I'd know about the box set as I would've bought it to protect the 4 volumes instead of the individual books. Yellow is the first yaoi series I've seen that offers a box set, more publishers should do it, it's a nice idea, but of course they'd have to let us know it's an option on release of the first volume, and we'd have to be patient enough to wait! Oh, and Goh isn't feminine, but he is gay and longs to open that box of delights for Taki! Now see, in this series there's pouncing, Gorgeous Carat characters should take note! *lol*

An absolutely wonderful work from Makoto Tateno, I read and reread it about a billion times ! (especially *that* scene in vol. 3...) Goh is soooooo hot and Taki is... absolutely yummy.
But... Goh, "shy and effeminate" ??? Noooooooooohohoho waaaay... "Pushy and manly" would fit him better, I think. Both are strong characters, physically and in spirit, and when one is down he can always rely on the other.
Lots of action, humor, steaming sex, angsty characters and a bit of kawaii... the perfect mix. Gorgeous artwork and a deep plot. This manga is perfect, yeah. One of my faves, definitely.
